From 1976-77, I was first mate on Buff Chace's yacht, the "Pearl Necklace." Buff was Malcolm's brother. I became quite fond of Great Island. The Chace elders, with whom I had most contact, were charming people. Those years remain with me as vibrant, wonderful memories. I was a gardener on Great Island for Malcolm Jr and his wife during two summers of my college years in the early 1970s. We frequent Pine Island Creek, a peaceful (and secret) place to drop anchor tucked in between Lewis Bay and the peninsula to Great Island. Great Island is a special place.
