Outwork em!

A friend of mine used to say he wasn’t the smartest finance guy in the room but that he would out work anyone. He was brilliant. I don’t agree with his self assessment, but I do agree with his approach of out working people.

When you aren’t as,

Smart
Educated
Experienced
Knowledgeable
Connected
Wise
Strong
Conditioned
Etc.

Work harder!

Out working your competition and those who posses more than you is a true equalizer.

There is always someone smarter, better educated, better connected and more.

When confronted with a disadvantage, just out work them.

The gritty always win!

Great point, Jim!  Aesop made the same point when he wrote “The Tortoise and the Hare.”  When I want to make the point myself, I usually say, “The Tortoise won the race.”  All the talent in the world can’t stand up to a powerful work ethic.

Great article, Jim! Nothing can substitute for hard work. The old age “work smarter; not harder” is ridiculous. Work smarter AND harder. When the smartest person in the room is the laziest person in the room, anyone of average intelligence can surpass him with a little effort. As a matter of fact, I think that the harder you work, the smarter you appear. Effort conveys intelligence. So, even if you aren’t that smart, people will think you are if you just get to work!

Not bad Keenan – my only comment is – Even if you are, or think you are, smart, educated, experienced, connected…etc, etc – Outwork them.

Currently reading a book right now called “The Power of Habit” and in that book they make the clear point, through scientific studies, that IQ is not a good indicator of the relative success of an individual.  The thing that they have found that is a strong indicator and highly correlated to success is a persons ability to consistently or habitually work harder than others.
When you build working hard into your routine and make it a habit, no one can stop you.
