A Hire in the Life of A Sales Guy Recruiting

Last month, A Sales Guy Recruiting posted an open Badass Jr. Recruiter position on our Hot Jobs site, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, and Indeed. We had a flood of applicants and a very simple but specific method of applying. NO RESUMES – rather, email me at badass@asalesguy.com with a brief description of why you’d crush this job and links to your entire social presence. You’d be surprised how many people couldn’t bother to read that far into the job description. Really? Let [Part I of] the first round of cuts commence! 300 kicked The First Cut Is The Deepest Part II is where things get interesting and in some cases, comical. As common to A $ales Guy Recruiting’s process, we asked the candidates to submit 3 video responses to interview questions via HireVue. (Our clients draw up their own set of questions when we’re recruiting outside our firm.) It’s a fantastic way to widdle down your applicant pool to the very best that you want to carve time out of your day to meet face to face. Look them in their digital eyes, get a sense of their personality and style, and not waste days of valuable time. Hiring decision makers can watch, rate and exchange comments about the interviews when they can make the time. Interviewees get “3 Takes” to nail a response worth submitting with unlimited time between takes. Think about it – you can rehearse your answers…what?!? mind blown Show Me What You’re Working With Many of the companies we hire for are startups with flipping awesome work environments. That does not mean: show up to HireVue in your PJs, in your recliner, with terrible lighting. Yeah, it happens. The last lasting impression you want to leave is “If you pick me, hygiene may be an issue.” Rather, show up as you would if you were going to the brick-and-mortar interview. I’m sorry if I’m coming off harsher than usual but help me help you. Such a good friend When it comes to crafting your responses, look like you’re excited to be there. Draw from your past experience but focus on the best practices and systems that you’ve developed for sales success and highlight how you can customize your sales process to this company and their mission. What unique value do you bring to any sales process? Check out this article from The Muse on How to Do a Video Meeting or Skype Interview Without Feeling Totally Awkward. Your Mobile Portfolio Hopefully, you’ve already started a brag book of all your client recommendations and gushings about how great it is to work with you. We also talk a lot about #SocialSelling here at A Sales Guy and as I mentioned we REQUIRE your social snapshot, not your resume, to apply. We’ll get there of course, but we first want to see if a) you’re the badass culture fit we’re looking for and b) you embrace social media as a new way to connect with your customers. Consider your social media presence as your mobile work portfolio and spruce it up. Some applicants didn’t respond with any links, others with what they thought we wanted to see (i.e. LinkedIn only) and others still that laid it all out on the table: the good, the bad, and the ugly. We may be a unique case but when we ask and don’t receive it looks like there may be something to hide. If it’s there – we’ll find it. I'll Find You Lastly, your mobile portfolio represents a more intimate side of you than possible in an hour-long interview – a glimpse inside your head. Be your funny, smart, positive self. If you use social media as a soapbox for rants and raves and general bitterness, consider the delete button. No one wants to work, be friends with, or date a negative nancy for that matter. We’re nearing the end of the hiring process for our Badass Jr. Recruiter position. Because of our very personal, outside the box process we have a strong idea of who our finalists are, in and out of their professional worlds. Stay tuned as we can’t wait to introduce the newest member of our badass team!
